Hunts Point

bronx, new york

Dating back to the 1850-1900's Hunts Point was originally occupied by wealthy land-owners.  However its landscape abruptly changed following WWI, when a train line was built along Southern Avenue.  Apartments buildings replaced mansions and cross-streets replaced meadows

The second half of the 20th century represented the low-point for Hunts Point, characterized by frequent arson and mass abandonment. However, the neighborhood has seen its population increase steadily since 1980 -- despite ongoing blight from it's lucrative drug trade and notorious prostitution rings
